We have heard many rumors on the internet – but one in particular seemed to catch our attention. Harley Davidson is thinking about taking over MV Agusta. This would be interesting because they already own Buell – a sportbike manufacturer – which uses Harley V-Twin engines in most of their motorcycles.

Therefore, one might question the logic of snatching up another maker of bikes with outwardly sporty intentions. Still, it is a well known fact that Harley-Davidson would like nothing more than to bring younger buyers into its showrooms, which is something that MV Agusta’s stunning range of machinery would surely do. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

Many people wonder what the motorcycle of the future will look like. Will it still have the same design and features as the current motorcycles or will it look completely out of the ordinary? According Jake Loniak – a student at Art Center Pasadena – motorcycles will be cooler and much more environment friendly.

The bike is called Deus Ex Machina, which means God Out of a Machine, the vehicle is a blend between a motorcycle and an exoskeleton. Featuring seven artificial vertebrae, thirty-six pneumatic muscles and a head of its own, the Yamaha-branded concept looks like something out a child’s worst nightmare. As speed increases, though, the two front wheels move outward, forcing the rider into a proper forward lean which resembles a current motorcycle stance more closely.

In-wheel electric motors get their juice from a hybrid power pack made from Doped NanoPhosphate batteries and ultracapacitors. The designer believes that the machine could accelerate to sixty in three seconds and reach a top speed of seventy-five miles per hour. Sure, we’re not likely to see anything like this in production in the near future, but it sure is cool to look at.

Rumor has it that Tata Motors is interested in purchasing a large amount of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Augusta. However, it looks as if they might have some competition to go up against first.

Mahindra & Mahindra is a large Indian motorcycle manufacturer who is also looking to get in on a piece of the action and desires to control a stake in the company. India Automotive reports that Mahindra has the ability to get the instant traction in the motorcycle market globally if they were to pick up MV Augusta.

Tata could also use the extra money that could be had from such a large company – which would give them a foothold to release a newer line of better and more powerful machines.

Volkswagen stated this week that they regretted not purchasing the Italian bike manufacturer Ducati when they had the chance. To make up for this they have decided to produce their own using KTM.

KTM is quickly becoming a more popular bike manufacturer and is becoming a source for bike parts. In fact there are rumors that they are providing technical support to VW. Apparently they are repaying them for helping to design the X-Bow – which turned out to be very popular.

KTM is known in the bike realm for producing excellent engines, so basing a possible VeeDub VeeTwin on existing Katoom architecture seems like a good idea. They are also considering bringing back the ill-fated GX3 three-wheeler, which was axed over fears of possible litigation. If VW were to sponsor a range of two-wheelers already, though, the GX3 would be a much safer bet for future production.

One of the biggest legends in motorcycle history is Arlene Ness. Ness started off by painting motorcycles as a way to make more money. It didn’t take long for Ness to grow attached to the bikes that he worked on and to study how they worked. Over time he had the knowledge and the reputation to begin his own parts company for bikes and he grew to be one of the best.

Not only does he sell parts – but he has also created some of his own unique bikes – which have now been given the esteem title of ‘classics’. Many of his popular bikes include the “Smooth-Ness” – which was inspired by Bugatti and the twin supercharged “Ferrari-Bike”.

Both of these bikes are some of Arlen’s favorites and they will be on display for everyone to see at the exhibit being held at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio. The name of the exhibit has been appropriately named “Awesome-Ness”. The exhibit will begin July 24th and will be there till June of 2009.

BMW has finally revealed their new S 1000 RR race bike - which will be released next year. Hendrik von Kenney - General Director of BMW Motored - has stated that they will be building 1,000 units of the new model.

Featuring a 1000cc inline-four transversely mounted between the frame rails and an upside-down front fork, the RR is rather conventional by BMW standards. This has allowed the Motorrad to keep the bike as compact as possible, which can be attested to by the fact that it has been spotted lapping tracks in Yamaha R6 bodywork. So far, no specifications have been given regarding power levels, but we fully expect it to be competitive with the Superbike front-runners. Traction control is also reportedly put to good use. Judging from the extensive use of (bare) carbon fiber, we’d expect the weight to be on par with the competition, as well. There’s an entire speech pasted after the break, so be sure to check it out.

BMW plans to crack the top ten next year in World Superbike racing and is expecting podium finishes the following year. Considering the fact that the Big Four Japanese manufacturers literally have a head start measuring a few decades on BMW, it’s probably wise to set attainable goals for now.

Then there are others that we wish could have stayed in the concept stage. Many of us have probably wondered what it would be like if one of the top automakers were to create their very own bike?

A scale model of what a Ferrari motorcycle would look like has been made – but whether or not we will actually see this bike in production. This scale model was created by a member of Scale Auto Magazine – but we hope that it will inspire the designers and engineers at Ferrari.

Airstream wants the custom bike ready to debut at the 2008 Legend of the Motorcycle Show – which will be on May 3rd. This will be Jesse’s second time at releasing a new bike at this particular show.

The first bike that he showed off was the Radial Hell (picture above) bike equipped with a Rotec 7 cylinder radial engine – which is usually used to power aircraft. Needless to say we know how much power Jesse’s bikes can hold and we wait in anticipation to see what his new one holds in store for us.

Honda has decided that the best way to create a unique and attractive motorcycle is to make it ‘retro’ Honda has designed the new CB1100F is based on the CB motorcycle from the 1970’s. They are hoping that this new design will ‘revolutionize the sporting bike game’ and take people by storm.

The CB1100F’s air-cooled engine, skinny “right-side-up” fork and dual shocks are carry-over pieces from the original design. Of course, that’s why it looks retro and why many people would likely run to their nearest Honda dealership to place their orders.
