BMW F 650 GS
Since 2000 BMW Motorrad has had a 650cc off-road adventure bike in its line-up just waiting to be driven off into the sunset. However, things are about to change for the 2009 model year.
BMW has given the new bike a complete makeover that is noticeable with the brand new parallel-twin engine that displaces close to 800cc. This engine makes it a little bit more powerful than the F 800 GS. Of course the two models differ in their specific engine tuning with the 650 producing 71-horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 55 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm and the F 800 GS offering up 85 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 62 lb-ft at 5,750 rpm.
BMW usually a shaft drive in their bikes - but the F 650 GS uses a rational chain to help with its off-road abilities and durability. They have connected a steel trellis frame with a double-sided swingarm that helps to offer a more stiff chassis. The fuel has been placed and mounted below the seat to help for a low center of gravity.
The F 650 GS has been priced at $8,255. If you want to add on the Standard Package it will increase the price to $9,760. The package includes anti-lock brakes, heated hand grips, white turn signals, and an on-board computer.
